This new home office space opening onto a deck replaced an existing screened porch that had no access to the back yard. Along with the new office space the owners also wanted to take advantage of the back yard for outdoor living and for their dogs to be able to safely enjoy the outdoors off leash. The second floor deck above the new office space provides an outdoor area for the upper unit of this two family Victorian house.

Almost finished office and decks.
A ramp for the dogs wraps around the main deck providing easy access for different size pets, and is wide enough for a snow shovel to easily clear it if needed. The traditional look was created with a combination of traditional wood and modern high-performance materials.
Almost finished office, decks, and dog ramp.
Changing the second floor screened porch to an open deck reduced the mass of the addition and allowed it to extend farther into the yard without crowding the main house. It also allowed restoration of the original line of the main roof eave and improved the views from the third floor dormer.

Interior details feature a simplified version of traditional window casings and baseboards, an antique radiator reused from another location in the house, hardwood floors to match the existing house, and the modern window shades over the energy efficient windows and door.
The office and deck addition was done along with the renovation of the first floor unit which included a new kitchen layout, new hall bath fixtures and finishes, and an updated primary suite space with a new bath and laundry
area. Completed in 2023.
